Gitty Wertenteil - Mosaic Artist

After moving to Israel in 2000 from Long Island, New York, I began studying the art of mosaics in Jerusalem as well as in Italy and have been creating unique mosaic art pieces since then.  I have a high standard of work, carefully choosing, cutting and placing each piece in order to get the results that I envision.

I work with a myriad of materials such as ceramics, stained glass, smalti, mirror, vitreous, millefiori, beads, stones and shells, however, I prefer stained glass for its unique blend of colors found in each individual piece and in the way it catches the light and brings the mosaic to life.  Designing and creating a piece of mosaic art is similar to life itself as it is has endless potential and possibility.  It is amazing to me how something so complete and stunning can be created by just piecing together a mixture of broken tiles.  Seeing this transformation occur  is both exhilarating and satisfying to my soul.

I began painting in 2013, first in acrylics and now in oils, which I favor.  It is challenging and exciting and I love the total contrast from the mosaics in the way the paint moves freely and smoothly.
